JACKSONs arrived in Co. Londonderry at least as early the early 1600s . This is an attempt to work with deeds so as not to lose our sense of the forest (or forests) for the trees. In the 1639 Great Parchment Book, there are already descriptions of the holdings of William, Richard and Peter JACKSON. Richard JACKSON is a carpenter of Magharafelt. It would not surprise me if he turns out to be related to the JACKSONs of Drogheda. The Richard JACKSON of Elaugh Castle in the County of Donnagall gent. is likely to be related to the JACKSONs of Coleraine. He is mentioned in relation to lands in Cumber (on the western border of Co. Londonderry). The Peter JACKSON on the eastern side of Coleraine is likely to be related to the Richard JACKSON (son James) who was a butcher. It is also possible that he was related to the JACKSONs of Steeple and Island Magee. These are all conjectures at this point.
Sharon Oddie Brown. January 23, 2019
Update. February14, 2019. I have added a few more deeds , but more importantly, I have also inserted many links to townlands. This should make them easier to find in spite of the many ways that they are spelled over time.

Jacksons of Londonderry

There are at least three groupings of JACKSONs in Londonderry. They are worth considering separately, althought they may very well converge into one tree. The green cluster to the left includes the JACKSONs of Newtownlimavady and the Roe Valley. I have yet to organize them into a family tree. The Purple section to the right includes members of the family tree of the JACKSONs of Coleraine. The pink one at the bottom includes JACKSONs (as well as the CLARKE and McCULLAGH families) with many links of marriages and/or leases to the Jacksons of Tobermore.
NOTE: I have added yellow to indicate the holdings of Richard JACKSON of Elagh Castle in 1639. SEE: The Great Parchment Book. I have also added Tamlaughtard since it was the home of Beresford JACKSON (1669- btw 1723-1730) of Ballymarghy. SEE ALSO: 1655 Hercules JACKSON's lease in Parish Dunboe of Dingonie for 11 years from Lord Kirkcudbright. 30/6/1655 SRO.RH15.19.59. SOURCE: Scots-Irish Links, 1575-1725, Parts 1-2. David Dobson.
1655, June: Lease by Lord Kirkcudbright to William Rosse, John Finie, Herculus Jackson, Dunboe parish, Co Londonderry, of the townland of Dingonie, in said parish, within the manor of Clothworkers, for 11 years. (Hercules Jackson may have had descendants who emigrated to America - he may have been in partnership with Patrick Adair, merchant, of Belfast & Pall Mall, London, brother of James Adair) SOURCE: Ancestry Message Board.
NOTE: by 1735 several townlands in the Parish of Dunboe were in possession of William JACKSON (1695-1744) of Coleraine. The ROSSES leased lands to the JACKSONs of Dundonald, Co. Down.(This tree needs updating)
