David JACKSON had 55 acres leased. Presumably it was reasonably fertile as it was valued at £41.10.0 while in the same parish about 82 acres was valued as £43. Urker house was valued at £9.0.0. A much grander house was leased by Margaret Anne BERNARD valued at £29.0.0. I suspect that this became the CORR residence. There is also a Michael PIDGEON – likely of the house that I thought was the pigeon house. A modest house, valued at 10s. |

DONALDSON, Rev. Joseph; DONALDSON, Elizabeth. SEE also: 1871 Dec 18 document. In 1857, Elizabeth Johanna DONALDSON née JACKSON was assigned the farm. In 1858, Margaret BRADFORD assumed a mortgage. Margaret BRADFORD (aunt of Elizabeth Johanna JACKSON and also of Eliza JACKSON née OLIVER) died in 1874. Work started on a building for “Aunt Bessie” in 1874 – I suspect this was at Kiltybane (need to clarify footnotes in one letter). It seems that Bessie was rejected by the DONALDSON family – possibly as a result of her son’s mental illness and her husband’s early demise (age 36). |

He also leased a house & forge valued at £1.5.0 and three houses valued at 0.15.0. NOTE: There were several holdings held by Thomas SIMPSON. NOTE: There was a Thomas SIMPSON, a flour merchant in Armagh, who was named in the will of Benjamin OLIVER to deal with his assets which in 1832 included holdings in Maghery Kilcranny. Benjamin’s grand-daughter Mary JACKSON married William MENARY jr. Although in the Griffiths records, Maghery House is leased by James HAGAN from Thomas SIMPSON, ten years later when William MENARY (husband of Mary JACKSON) dies, his residence is given as Maghery House. The buildings that Osborne KIDD leased from the Lord Archbishop of Armagh as documented in the 1864 Griffiths are valued at £45. The farmland amounts to 62 acres 2 roods. Total value of land and house = £167.15.0. This acreage corresponds to earlier OLIVER presences on the land:
1766 Jan 10 – 77 acres of Tullymore leased by John OLIVER from John JOHNSTON for 14 years. It is significant that the deed mentions: to manage and repair the mill dam and mill race belonging to the mill of Tullymore and also mentions Joseph OLIVER. 1776 will mentions nephew William OLIVER of Tullymore (1807 Jan 20 deed) 1780 lease from 1766 would have matured. I have nothing of this 1800 May 5 Robert WELSH-John OLIVER Lease of all the mills and farm of Tullymore. 1803 John OLIVER married WHITESIDE -5 acres of Tullymore part of agreement. 1804 Oct 31 Jane HAMILTON of Tullymore married Joseph OLIVER. Laragh and Cavananore were offered up as an annuity should Jane survive her husband (which she did). This is part of the legal and financial underpinnings to the conflict in Laragh in the 1840s. Also of interest: the lands of Tullymore then in the possession of the said Jane Hamilton containing sixty acres three roods and thirty three perches excepting as in said Indenture mentioned situate in the Parish and County of Armagh aforesaid together with all and singular the houses buildings ways waters easements and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining. 1807 May 6 Joseph OLIVER of Tullymore had 94 acres in the Kennedies leased from John PRINGLE. Need to explore: HAMILTON-OLIVER; JOHNSTON-OLIVER; PRINGLE-OLIVER and the Vicars Choral and Organist of St. Patrick's Cathedral of Armagh; |

Given that Andrew OLIVER held leases here in the late 1700s, the absence of any OLIVER name is significant. There is however a Jane McCULLAGH. This could be the Jane OLIVER who married John McCULLAGH (she was a sister of my g-g-grandfather Benjamin OLIVER). She leases out a couple of houses at ££6.0.0 & £6.0.0. Further down the street, Messrs McCULLAGH also leased a house valued at £8.0.0. The Misses KIDD had a house valued at £10.00. Interestingly, there is also a sawmill with house and stored valued at £46.0.0 owned by Rev. Samuel SIMPSON (Note the name SIMPSON as a witness in will of Benjamin OLIVER). Leonard DOBBIN also had a house valued at £24.0.0. |
