Jacksons of St. Michans Parish 1600s 1700s
One of my interests in following this parish is that the JACKSONs who were involved in the United Irishmen and based in Ballybay were supposedly connected to this church – although so far, I can find no record of them. The earliest origins that we have for them connect them to Lisbano, Co. Meath.
Sir Richard Robert MADDEN in a letter published March 27, 1847 in Freemans Journal and Daily Commercial Advertiser mentions a tombstone memorial to Oliver BOND erected by his widow, a daughter of Henry JACKSON of Church Street. As Madden comments: The tombstone over it was on the left-hand side of the church by the ball and nearly opposite the entrance to the vaults on that side. There I saw it in 1841 in 1842, but there exists no longer. On visiting the spot last Monday it was only after a long search that I found this too much injured one large piece entirely broken off in a corner at the other end of the churchyard adjoining Bow Street, and in the same place the tombstone of the Rev. William Jackson, who died in the court of King's bench, in the city, in 1795. The Henry JACKSON is most likely the same JACKSON mentioned in connection with a foundry at Pill Lane in various deeds and the place of the tombstone was supposedly where earlier generations of the family had been buried. The fact that William JACKSON was also buried there may be telling in terms of a possible familial link.
