PRONI MIC/1/11
Updated using information from 2007 and 2010 visits to Ireland. I keep revisiting this microfilm, and noting a few more names each time as other names seem to become important in fleshing out the story. This last time, I had just started on the baptism section, when the lights went out – literally. The place was closing.
January 2011 This is the highlighting used for the 76 new records that I have recently added. |
To follow up on some of the relationships, the page on Tullyvallen JACKSONs, WALLACEs and others may be useful: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/maps/Tullyvallen-JACKSONs.html

Jones, Anne |
Agbold, Co. Wicklow |
1807, Aug 12 |
In the presence of William JOHNSTON of Clough, Wexford & John JONES, Union of Ferms, Wexford. NOTE: It is possible that John JACKSON was a grandson of George JACKSON & Margaret O’LAUGHLIN. Or there may be some other relationship with the other JACKSONs of the region. It is significant that the exact same record is recorded in the Glenealy Church of Ireland, Co. Wicklow. |

Gilmer, Martha |
Creggan |
1815, Mar 24 |
NOTE: A Thomas Stephens married Barbara JACKSON (daughter of David JACKSON & Margaret BRADFORD). She died young leaving three children – the youngest born in 1813. It is possible that this is a second marriage – if he is the same man. I do not know yet where Martha GILMORE fits in. There is a burial for a Martha STEPHENS of cloghog in 1856, when she was 72 years old (hence b. 1784). |

B 1769 |
Jackson, John |
Creggan |
Aged 37 |
1817, June 21 |
1817, 20 June |
B 1780 Husband of Elizabeth McCULLAGH & grandfather of Sir Thomas JACKSON |
Stevens, Thos |
Crossmaglen Creggan |
Age 50 |
1823, Jan 20 |
|
B 1773 This is possibly the husband of both Barbara JACKSON & Martha GILMORE. SEE 1815 marriage. |
Gilmore, John |
Creggan |
Age 70 |
1823, Jan 22 |
|
b. 1753 It is possible that he is the J. GILMORE who married Mary JACKSON (daughter of George JACKSON & Margaret O’LAUGHLIN). It is also possible that he was the father of both Samuel GILMORE (1795-1868) and George GILMORE of Coolderry (d 1832). |
Wallace, Anne |
Urker Creggan |
Age 56 |
1823, Apr 15 |
|
B 1767 Why she is at Creggan, I do not know. No WALLACE shows up there in the 1828 records. Interestingly, I have another “orphan WALLACE” – in 1839, a Richard JACKSON of Tullyvallen married a Mary WALLACE. This Anne may be related to the John WALLACE who married Jane DONALDSON. |
Kerfoot, Anne |
Urker Creggan |
Age 40 |
1824, Feb 14 |
1824, Feb 12 |
B 1784. In 1828, there were several KERFOOTs leasing land at Urker. |
Johnston, Anna |
Dundalk |
Daughter of Graham Johnston Age 10 |
1825, Apr 7 |
|
B 1815 This father is likely the Graham JOHNSTON mentioned in the 1817 inventory of John JACKSON’s assets (in relation to a debt). |
Wallace, John |
Cloghog Creggan |
Age 67 |
1827, Feb 2 |
1827, Jan 30 |
B 1760. He was the husband of firstly Emelia HOAR and secondly of Jane DONALDSON. His son Robert Grenville WALLACE was born to his first wife in 1786. His daughters Mary Anne(1795), Jane (1806), Margaret(1811) Eliza & Kathleen were from his second marriage. |
Wallace, John |
Urker Creggan |
Age 67 |
1827, Feb 2 |
|
Husband of Jane DONALDSON & father of 5 children. Is it possible that although he was of Cloghog, that he died at Urcher? There seem to be two records that I have transcribed. Of course, I may have transcribed in error. |
Stephens, Mary |
Drumboe[?] |
Age 46 |
1827, Feb 4 |
|
B 1781 |
Donaldson, Alice |
Cloghog |
Age 66 |
1827, Feb 18 |
|
NOTE: Is this a mistranscription and the same as the one beneath? This is the second record to have both Cloghog & Urcher as the given townland. |
Donaldson, Alice |
Urker Creggan |
Age 60 |
1827, Feb 18 |
|
B 1767 Possibly daughter of Joseph & Anne Donaldson, sister-in-law of James Wallace. Interestingly, George JACKSON & Margaret McLAUGHLIN had a daughter named Alice who married an unnamed “LOY”. There was also an unnamed Alice who married a Samuel DONALDSON (1753-1827 – son of William DONALDSON & Agnes). They probably married about 1780 – given that the births of 6 children start in 1783. The latter is a strong candidate for being this person, but this needs to be verified. |
Donaldson, Elizabeth Ann |
Creggan |
Age 24 |
1827, Jun 26 |
|
b. 1803. NOTE: Her death is mentioned in 1827 letter from Eliza JACKSON |
Donaldson, Samuel |
Creggan |
Age 74 |
1827, Jul 4 |
|
B 1753. I am guessing him to be a Samuel DONALDSON (1753-1827 – son of William DONALDSON & Agnes the husband of Alice DONALDSON above d. 1827, Feb 18 |
Oliver, Jane |
Creggan |
Age 87 |
1827, Oct 27 |

1830, May 11 |
|
b 1798 |
Jackson, Elizabeth |
Liscalgot |
Age 60 |
1830, May 29 |
|
B 1770 There is a possibility that she was a daughter of George JACKSON & Margaret O’LAUGHLIN, although she did marry a WORTHINGTON or a SHEA. The projected date of birth of 1770 would fit. NOTE: There is also another JACKSON family connected to Liscalgot that I have yet to fit in. |
Coulter, John |
Anavacky |
Age 27 |
1830, July 12 |
|
B 1803 NOTE: I may have a transcription error here. The month may be January since this entry precedes the entry for Samuel Donaldson on May 11. |
Gilmore, George |
Coolderry |
Age 44 |
1832, Jan 10 |
|
B 1788 One place to look for where he might fit is as a son of Mary JACKSON who married a J.GILMORE (since her father was called “George”). SEE: Burials, Gilmore, John 1828 (therefore b. 1788) The argument for this connection is also strengthened by a daughter Mary Jackson GILMORE born to George GILMORE of Coolderry. |
Stephens, Nicholina |

NOTE: She is not the daughter of William DONALDSON & Harriett WALLACE. I am unsure about where she fits – as a wife or widow or a DONALDSON, or born as a DONALDSON. She is likely the one mentioned in a letter November 12, 1873 from Eliza JACKSON. I believe that Sytrim is also known as Sheitrim. |

b. 1840 Aunt Georgie was a name that Eilie RYDER recalled. Née HENRY. She was the widow of Dr. Samuel GILMORE. SOURCE: Will Abstract: GILMORE, Georgina Victoria Wilhelmina late of Laurel Hill, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan. Widow who died 5 March 1900 granted to Jane Coulter Amelia GILMORE spinster the daughter. Effects ₤155 16s 2d. She was the daughter of John HENRY – although I don’t have the source for this information. |

I am guessing that this is Elizabeth Johanna JACKSON – wife of John JACKSON. If so, it would accord with a confirmation date as well as a christening date of 1817 – the christening done on the day of her father’s death. "Will of Elizabeth Johanna DONALDSON late of Kiltylane [sic] d. 30 March 1900 granted at Armagh to Eliezer GILMORE, farmer. Effects 45 pounds." NOTE: The burial date is before the death date – something is a bit off here. |

Johnston, John X James of Dorsey |
|
I should look at the original again to better understand the “X” – but it would seem likely that this Richard is related to the JOHNSTONs of Dorsey who were confirmed at Creggan Church in 1824, as well as a later batch confirmed in 1833. The name Richard JOHNSTON is of interest because of the earlier Richard JOHNSTON who married Anne JACKSON, daughter of George JACKSON & Margaret O’Laughlin of Urker in 1767. See also the baptism of George JOHNSTON of Dorsey, son of James & Ann. |

SEE: Burial Richard JACKSON of Liscalgot 1848, Feb 17. There may be a connection to the line of JACKSONs that I am following – possibly a cousin. In 1825, a Richard JACKSON was a tenant of Tullyvallen (one of Capt. REID’s tenants). Also, a James GROSET who was possibly the husband of Jane JACKSON lived there as well. |

B 1802 It would be tempting to suggest Margaret is the daughter of John JACKSON & Elizabeth McCULLAGH, but it is unlikely as Elizabeth McCULLAGH would have been 14 at the time of this birth. Rather, I would suggest that there is another line of JACKSONs living at Liscalgot at this time – likely cousins of our line. I do not know anything about them. |

Rather, I would suggest that there is another line of JACKSONs living at Liscalgot at this time – likely cousins of our line. NOTE: I do not know anything about them, but there is a strong possibility that they are the children of Richard JACKSON. |

B 1813. NOTE: It would be tempting to suggest Sarah is the daughter of John JACKSON & Elizabeth McCULLAGH, but I would suggest that there is another line of JACKSONs living at Liscalgot at this time – likely cousins of our line. It is possible that the father was a Richard JACKSON. |

B. June 24, 1811; daughter of John JACKSON & Elizabeth McCULLAGH; later became the wife of Rev. Joseph BARKLEY and died Feb 6, 1892. Interesting that her younger brother’s residence is given as Urker. I wonder if her residence was mixed up with that of her namesake cousin who was a year younger, or if she was actually resident at the Liscalgot school and working there in some capacity. |
