Mary COULTER, a sister of Andrew COULTER (d. 1775) of Cavananore married Samuel TIPPING. Both the naming patterns & geography would hint at a link with this Andrew TIPPING. |

This is not John JACKSON, son of George JACKSON (1718-1782) & Margaret O’LAUGHLIN (-1797) of Lisnadill |
1810 Sep 1 |
Richard |
Johnston, John X James of Dorsey |
|
I should look at the original again to better understand the “X” – but it would seem likely that this Richard is related to the JOHNSTONs of Dorsey who were confirmed at Creggan Church in 1824, as well as a later batch confirmed in 1833. NOTE: The name Richard JOHNSTON is of interest because of the earlier Richard JOHNSTON who married Anne JACKSON, daughter of George JACKSON & Margaret O’Laughlin of Urker in 1767. See also the baptism of George JOHNSTON of Dorsey, son of James & Ann. |

Probably Cregganbane. |

|
Margaret |
Ball, Samuel Esq. |
Urker |
She is the daughter of Capt Samuel BALL & Mary HOWARD of Urker. Probate of the Will of Margaret Ball late of Castle-road Dundalk County Louth Spinster who died 14 December 1898 granted at Armagh to the Reverend Joseph G. Rainsford D.D. Rector of Dundall and John William Turner Esquire both of Dundalk. She gave £1000 to grand-niece Annie E.A. JOHNSTONE plus her house and furniture...other legatees |

Jackson, Richard |
Tullyvallen – possibly – later Urker, possibly. |
SEE: Burial Richard JACKSON of Liscalgot 1848, Feb 17. There may be a connection to the line of JACKSONs that I am following – possibly a cousin. In 1825, a Richard JACKSON was a tenant of Tullyvallen (one of Capt. REID’s tenants). Also, a James GROSET who was possibly the husband of Jane JACKSON lived there as well. |
1811 Mar 20 |
Mary Laughlan |
Stephens, Michael |
|
The middle name of Laughlan is interesting because of the maiden name of Margaret O’LAUGHLIN (1720-1797), the grandmother of Barbara JACKSON who married a Thomas STEPHENS. |

If she is the child of John (and I didn’t make a transcription error), then I expect that Joseph DONALDSON (b 1773) of Sheetrim was her uncle. It is also curious that entries before this one give the name of the mother. If this is the John DONALDSON who I think it is, then he was the author of A Historical & Statistical Account of the Barony ofUpper Fews. |

The family moved to New Brunswick, Canada. Her mother Harriet WALLACE (daughter of Robert Grenville WALLACE who inherited the family farm in Clohog) was born in Calcutta. Her father b. abt 1814. They married in 1831. I have a birth date of February 23, 1837, a census gives her birth date as 10 or 11 Feb 1837 – so something is amiss. Perhaps 1836 is actually 1838 and I misread it. |

One correspondent who follows McMATH families believes that the mother was a Sarah JACKSON. It may be that Andrew McMATH is Andrew Foulie McMATH (1814-1876), a manager of the Belfast Bank in Castleblayney, or his father who had the same name and was a JP. Sophia Kathleen McMATH married a . In the 1901 Census, a Sarah McMATH was a widow born in Monaghan age 64 in Coolshannagh, hence b 1837. This would be the next generation, her husband likely a brother of Sophia. One lost record said that Sarah JACKSON was b 1814 in Sterling Scotland and died in 1901 in Castleblayney. There was also a son: Andrew Jackson McMATH. NOTE: This all needs more work. |
