Jacksons in 1^st Millrow Presb Antrim

In this work, I am standing on the shoulders of two generous researchers: Eddie Connolly who posts at Eddie’s Extracts and Pauline Loughran. I met Pauline last spring at PRONI when she was doing research for a client, and she took time out to share a number of the records that are included beneath.

I have shaded Eddie’s contributions in green. The rest are thanks to Pauline. Some of them were devilishly hard to read.

All these townlands mentioned beneath are in parishes that are adjacent to one another,. They are also places where the JACKSONs lived for several generations. Place names mentioned:

Steeple aka Stipell - townland in the Parish of Antrim.
Muckamore aka the Parish of the Grange of Muckamore.
Dublin Road aka A26 is on the west side of the town of Antrim. It starts to the west of Six Mile Water, and then crosses over a bridge and continues east of Six Mile Water in a northerly direction just west of the Townland of Steeple through the townland of Springfarm.
Oldstone is a townland of 411 acres in the Parish of the Grange of Muckamore.
Ballyharvey could be one of two townlands in the Grange of Muckamore: Upper Ballyharvey – 154 acres, and Lower Ballyharvey – 223 acres.
Ballyarnold aka Ballyarnot, 32 acres in Grange of Muckamore. There were JACKSONs still leasing there at the time of Griffiths
Springhill. Is the name of a house in Ballyarnot.

There are 5 JACKSON families from 1820 onwards that we can dare to group because the names of husband and wife are both recorded.

Samuel JACKSON and William JACKSON both married a McCLURE (Eliza & Mary). Both are residing in Ballyharvey. This suggests that brothers may have married sisters (not uncommon).
A William JACKSON of Dublin Road may have had two wives. The first, Mary M’CLURE had one child born 1821, and then two more at Ballyharvey, the last in 1826. In 1831, William JACKSON of Oldstone had three children born at Dublin Road with Jane SUFFRIN. Since Ballyharvey Rd. goes through Oldstone, and is also the townland on its western border, it is possible that the place of birth may be the same – regardless of whether it was recorded as Ballyharvey or Oldstone.
Since Oldstone is in Muckamore, it is possible to see a relationship between those births and the ones recorded as being at Oldstone. The George JACKSON of Muckamore had three daughters: Jane (1693) Elizabeth (1701) and Janett (1704). If he had no sons, that would be the end of his Presbyterian Jackson line.
