Oliver death certs only Armagh
Since OLIVERs were present in Armagh as early as the 1670s, and living in and around Farmacaffley (Parish of Lisnadill) and Mullintur (Parish of Eglish), I use shading to indicate where you might learn more about different lines.
NOTE:
· At least 9 people in this chart died of Phthisis - a word that covered lung diseases such as TB, COPD, cancer, etc. It was a disease category that was characteristic of a slow wasting that was lung related, but distinct from pneumonia, bronchitis or croup. It was also often related to occupations where people were exposed to dust – for example, the linen weaving industry.
· The number of witnesses who signed with an X is higher than I would have thought. It may indicate illiteracy. It may also indicate issues with eyesight. There does seem to be an economic correlation – the poorer members are more likely to sign with an X.
· It is useful to view this table in conjunction with another table I created for OLIVER probates. NOTE: The probates in this table only go back to 1867.
These people are included in my family tree and are known to be related to my OLIVERs, thanks to facts found in paper trails and/or DNA. |
These people are included in my family tree and are NOT YET known to be related to my OLIVERs (and they may turn out to not be related at all). There is enough information in my notes so you can find out more about them. SEE: My family tree at Rootsweb. |
