About the year 1700, Eliza, daughter of Andrew Oliver of Tattykeel, married John Vance, a member of a prominent family in Castlecaulfield. This is the only official record of Andrew Oliver of Tattykeel. However, circumstantial and non-authenticated evidence gives credence to a theory that Andrew was the son of George Oliver of Tullyhogue. In an “Account of William Oliver and his descendants”, written in 1903 by an unnamed elderly relative in Ireland, it is stated that Stephen, William, Eliza, and another sister came to Tattykeel from Scotland about 1720; also, that another brother named Andrew immigrated to County Armagh at the same time. Obviously, this information is incorrect as to date and relationship; and almost certainly incorrect in the statement that Andrew Oliver, brother of William and Stephen, remained in County Armagh. However, the author's recollection of relationship between Andrew of County Armagh and Stephen and William of Tattykeel supports a belief that Andrew of Tattykeel, ca. 1700 and Andrew of County Armagh in 1664 were one and the same person. In 1664, Andrew, William, and Stephen Oliver of County Armagh were taxed for " 1 hearth each "; while there are no Olivers on the Hearth Money Rolls for County Tyrone, 1663--1669. It is quite likely that Andrew, Stephen, and William Oliver were sons of George Oliver of Tullyhogue Manor, and at the time of the Siege of 1641 they fled or were taken to County Armagh. Inclusion in the Hearth Money Rolls in 1664 is evidence that all were married. Sometime before 1700, Andrew and his family came to County Tyrone and settled in the townland of Tattykeel, a short distance from Andrew's birthplace, Tullyhogue. He may have been the oldest of the brothers, and childhood recollections may have prompted his return. William, Stephen, Eliza, and an unnamed sister, mentioned in the “Account of William Oliver”. may refer to the children of Andrew Oliver. There are no records of this early date for either the parish of Kildress (Tyrone) or Eglish parish (Armagh), and 1742 is the earliest date in the " Index to Armagh (diocese) Licence Bonds up to 1858 " under the name Oliver. Probably, Andrew was born sometime between 1628 and 1630.

1792 April 5 James OLIVER of Town of Armagh, Gent purchased lands of Breagh. There are three townlands with this name: Parishes of Drumcree, Seagoe and Tartaraghan. I suspect the first two because of other documented family presence there. It would not be unreasonable to suspect that a James OLIVER was a brother of Thomas OLIVER (1741-1826). There is no proof, but a letter written by John C. Oliver (1915-1989) in 1973 adds a few more bits: "...a James Oliver was the father of Thomas Oliver, who died in Cavan in 1701 who or what was James Oliver, I have never been able to discover it would need a mad search of tomb stones in all areas mentioned".

1829 February 27 Belfast Newsletter. At this time, the prospect from Woodpark Hill was truly delightful and picturesque – the immense concourse which clothed its sides rising in the form of an extensive amphitheatre; underneath the busy ploughman preparing for the contest, and some contending with restive horses. Adjoining, it laid the demesne of Fellows Hall, the seat of T. Knox Armstrong, Esq. and on a rising ground in the same direction, the village of Killylea; to the right, the venerable Cathedral of Armagh, showed its elevated spire, and the distant prospect in this direction was almost inimitable; to the left lay Mount Irwin, the highly improved and handsome demesne of William Irwin, Esq. The eye was next attracted by the, well cultivated forms of Messrs. Oliver and Roberts of Lislooney, and the village of Tynan, adjoining the beautiful and extensive demesnes of Sir James M. Strong, Bart. and the Earl of Caledon. To the south, as far as the horizon, they are fine champaign country, apparently well improved.

1831 Mar 11 Belfast Newsletter. TYNAN FARMING SOCIETY. – The annual ploughing match of the Tynan branch, N. E. farming society, was held on the 24th ult. on the Glebe lands at Tynan. On the signal being given, 25 competitors started in admirable style; and so well was the whole work executed that the judges –Messrs M. Pringle of Grange, Val B. Fair of Caledon, and James Wilson of Glasslough – had a great difficulty in selecting the most meritorious lots; between the best two of which they were unable to decide – so the silver cup with £2 for first prize, was again to be contested. – Mr. and Mrs Oliver of Lislooney, had prepared a very sumptuous entertainment, which was dispensed with an unsparing hand to every respectable individual who either was an acquaintance or known to come from a distance. At five o’clock, about 60 persons, composed principally the neighbouring gentry and respectable farmers, sat down to dinner – Maxwell Cross of Dartry, Esq. in the chair. After dinner, the usual national patrioticle complimentary and agricultural toasts, were given. The adjudications were then read by the secretary – 1st and 2nd to be ploughed again, by Messrs. John Stitt of Tynan, and R. Johnston of Deryyha – 3rd, John Sanderson, ploughman to Mr. E. Kilpatrick – 4th, Samuel Beattie, ploughman to Mr. John Martin – 5th, John Gregory, ploughman to Mr. James Morrow – 6th, Thomas Heney, ploughman to T.K. Armstrong, Esq. – 7th John McAllister, ploughman to Colonel Close – 8th, Frank Hughes, ploughman to Mr. Dixon – 9th, Mr. Oliver’s ploughman – 10th, Mr. A. Johnston’s ploughman – 11th, Mr. D. Norton’s Ploughman – 12 Mr. M. Armstrong’s Ploughman.

I suppose M^r McCombe to be the author of this opinion; though Thompson did not say so; and whether it is a bona fide advice; or whether it is only another seven years wait and more law costs; I cannot say. May the Lord direct whatever is best. I expect Thompson here today; when we will hear more particulars, and discuss the affair.
