Lislooney OLIVERs The names of these OLIVERs link up to the OLIVERs of Killynure and hence to Ennislare and likely also to Farmacaffley, Co. Armagh. In a couple of months, I expect to have made enough progress to be able to show the actual links. |

Olivers of Brootally, Co. Armagh Three of the four deeds referenced in this piece had already been posted, although footnotes have been updated. There is no doubt that these OLIVERs are related directly to the OLIVERs of Ennislare and Killynure and hence in all liklihood to the OLIVERs of Mullinture. WHen I am able to complete my deeds work (early 2008, I hope), then I will revisit this and similar pages and do a rewrite to include updates on all the various interconnections. Until then, please regard this as a page in progress. |

September 25 This Memorial concerns properties
relating to Anne OLIVER’s marriage to Samuel ELGEE of Rochvale,
Co. Monaghan. At present I believe she is the daughter of David OLIVER & Susannah
WALKER of Ballyrea, Co. Armagh. The marriage settlement is with her
brothers Joseph & Benjamin OLIVER. The William OLIVER of Laragh
who witnesses the agreement is also likely her brother. Since the properties
involve lands in Dundalk, I suspect a connection to Charles ELGEE of
Dundalk and hence to one of his daughter, Jane Frances ELGEE mother
of Oscar WILDE.

August 17 NOTE: This line of the OLIVERs is a side line of the OLIVER
line that I am most focussed on - but since there is some alleged intermarriage
between the two lines and since this Susannah OLIVER was born in Ardagh
and since the OLIVERs of Ulster also entered into other leases with Rev.
Dr. Hugh HAMILTON, it is worth noting this particular deed. It may also
help lead us to the particulars of the later OLIVER family debts concerning
Laragh mills which were owed to the HAMILTON family. The footnoting is
not extensive, but should be enough to get a good idea.

October 15 - Eliza Jackson letter Thanks to Brendan Matthews
from the Millmount Archival Library, Drogheda Co. Louth Ireland who
undertook extensive search for the Jackson Coat of Arms (in response
to my question) but could not find mention of any such incident or
emblem being erected on any building within the town of Drogheda.
Drogheda was founded in the year 1186 AD and, from that period onwards, there
is a good record of all the Civic and Municipal buildings that were erected and
particularly the buildings, emblems, etc, that were erected and bestowed on the
town from the mid 17th century. There was a town hall in Drogheda that was subsequently
demolished (at 3:00 AM when under a preservation order!). This building known
as Withworth Hall was constructed in the mid 19th century. Regrettably, there
isn’t any documentation or otherwise regarding any Jackson crest or indeed
any emblem recorded for this hall. |

I worked from two main sources: http://www.failteromhat.com/armaghhearth/ardmagh.htm and The
Ire-Atlas Townland Database and used them to guess the contemporary name of townlands based on
the sounds of the names as well as the names of adjacent townlands
that show up in the Registry on the same page. This latter method may
have been misleading. I have also been guided by connections that I
have noticed in later deeds. Some boxes were shaded in order to draw my attention to names & places

of Liscalgot. In physical appearance, she resembles many JACKSON family members. |

May 21 Will of Charlotte PRINGLE I do not know who these people are,
but there are many deed connections between the OLIVER and PRINGLE families
in Co. Tyrone
& Armagh (and in particular with John PRINGLE). The PRINGLE family
were known to be English. Of particular note is the mention of the
parents of Charlotte Pringle née OLIVER, Dr. William & Elizabeth
OLIVER, as well as her sisters, Susan and Caroline (both unmarried
at the time of the will) and Elizabeth who had married ARLAND, Harriet
who had married SPRAGUE, a brother WIlliam OLIVER. Other names: Ralph

"late of Armagh but then of Fredericktown", Maryland, USA

April 20 The most useful information from this Deed with respect
to constructing the family tree is that David OLIVER of Ballyrea had
twin sons: William

June 11 Given how early this Deed is, it may connect to the William
OLIVERof Mullitur. The Deed is between George JOHNSTON of “Ballynameta” also
known as Wood Park, situated in the Parish of Tynan, Co. Armagh and William
OLIVER of Lislooney (also in the Parish of Tynan). It is likely significant
that a century later, a Benjamin OLIVER was a freeholder of Lislooney.
Other names of likely significance: William, Francis & John SCOTT and
John HAMILTON. |

April 8 John OLIVER-Samuel OLIVER John OLIVER of Tullymore leased
some lands of Tullymore to Samuel OLIVER of Town & County of Monaghan
for ₤100. This is especially interesting
because of the mention of a Samuel OLIVER in the registry of 1st Ballybay
Church, the church where David JACKSON & Eliza OLIVER were married
in 1838. We still do not know the extent of the OLIVER interconnections
between Monaghan and Armagh. OTHER NAMES: James ALFORD; John ALFORD & John

May 6 Joseph OLIVER & Joseph LEE There are several leases involving

- Will of Jean Alexandre MENURET This will is of great significance
to understanding the late 1700s history of the MENARY or MENURET family. I cleaned up the format errors and reposted February

OLIVER TABLE. The Benjamin OLIVERs of most interest to me in
terms of their connection to Benjamin OLIVER (1765-1831) of Killynure are
the ones connected to the townlands in Armagh - Ballynahonbeg, Ballyrea,
Enagh, Knockagraphy, Magherry Kilcranny and the ones in Monaghan -
Ballybay, Clontibret, Cornicarra and Laragh. |

page of photos and gravestone transcriptions I have updated this
page as I have figured out another small link between our JACKSONs and
the Ballybay, Co. Monaghan JACKSONs with a connection to Lisnaboe. We
don't quite have a slam dunk, but every bit helps. |

ancestors of Eliza OLIVER, my great-great grandmother There are dozens
of hyperlinks on this page to more information, deeds, biographies and
letters that concern this line of OLIVERs. My attempts to create a coherent
family tree has been plagued by dead-ends and assumptions that have often
turned out to be flat wrong. I know full well that the result thus far
is still more than likely to be riddled with errors. Nonetheless, I have
posted it - as a rough draft - in the hopes that others may know of other
bits of the puzzle and can set me right. I will update the page from
time to time - so watch for the update notice in red
font. I'm looking forward to learning more. |

OLIVER I have done a major rewrite of the biography of Benjamin OLIVER,
father of Eliza OLIVER (mother of Sir Thomas JACKSON & my great-great-grandmother). |

OLIVER
- Caledon Parish Baptisms It is quite possible that several of these
Co. Tyrone OLIVER lines are related to other Ulster OLIVERs in Co. Armagh
and Co. Monaghan. Also of note is the profession of weaver for several
John OLIVER entries. |

tree prepared by Blin BROWN abt 1938 Blin BROWN was the only member
of her generation from our family that I recall meeting. My Grandfather,
her brother, died before I was born. Ironically, I first encountered
most of this document threough Wendy JACK of Australia. Then I was given
the original by Gika JACKSON. I have only footnoted a few entries as
most of it is covered off elsewhere on this web site. Entries on OLIVER,
JACKSON, McCULLAGH, BRADFORD and more. |

weavers: The occupation of weaver or draper occurs frequently enough
that it is worthy of study. It may also tie in to the family story that
the OLIVERs who were ancestors of Sir Thomas JACKSON came from the Netherlands
where they had sought refuge after fleeing from France and that they
subsequently served under King William at the time of the Battle of the
Boyne in 1690 |

the date of his death rather than 1821, the date of probate. There isn't
much information, but maybe more will emerge. |
