2 Feb. , 1648. The good ship called the " Mary Constance," of Bristol, arriving at this port 1 Jan., freighted with Tobacco of the island of Barbadoes , Richard Davies , Master of said ship , William Jackson, mercht. , humbly prayed that he might be admitted to compound with the Body politic, for the custom and cocquette due to the Incorporation for the same, which the Mayor, &c., assembled, for divers allegations alledged by Will. Jackson, and for losses by him sustained , were pleased to reduce the said custom and cocquet to 16li. 10s. ster., being one 4th part of the custom due to the King's Majy., to 12li. ster. to be forthwith collected by the Mayor.

This Indenture , made 10 Sep. , 1658, between William Gibbs , of Stookenext -Nayland, co. Suffolk , Esq., of the one parte, and Thomas Jackson, of Ballyduff, co . Waterford , gent., John Smith of Ballynetrae in said co., gent., and Alexander Deane , of Lismore in said co., gent. Witnesseth that said W. Gibbs hath for rent demised, &c., let unto said T. Jackson, J. Smith, and Alex. Deane , their heirs , &c., all the lands of Cooleishels , belonging to said W. G., cont. 485 plant . acres ; Glanbegg , cont . 120 acres ; Ballifinsoge , cont. 152 acres ; Ballymotte , cont. 190 acres ; also part of the two plowlands of Ballymacshonick , cont . 48 acres : in all 995 acres , with all the houses, &c., except all timber , woods and trees growing , to be allowed to and for the said T. , J., and A. , &c. , to be assigned to them by said Wm., his heirs , &c . To have to said T., J., and A. for 21 years from 1 May, 1659, yielding yearly to said Wm. Gibbs , his heirs , &c., for the first ten years , 90 pounds ster., and every year thenceforward to the expiration of the term 110li. over and above all chiefries , taxes, &c. , to be paid in the shop of Thomas Fennors , at the foot of Royal Exchange in Cornhill in London, in case it be not paid to said Wm. Gibbs , &c., at the sign of the Mermaid , being the house of the Widdow Gilles in Youghal, and said T., J., and A. covenant with said W. G. will build within the first seven years upon the above land of Coolishels , a dwelling stone house of 30 feet in length and 16 in breadth , with six rooms, and on the land of Ballyfinesoge or Ballymott, the like dwelling stone house of 30 feet in length and 16 in breadth , with six rooms ; and also another dwelling-house on the lands of Glaunbegg , with like stone house-and keep up same during the whole term, and all other houses which are or shall be built upon said demised premises ; and do their best to keep the fruit trees growing in the orchards belonging to same, and keep the fences in repair , and within the first three years set up in the outmost boundaries a number of marks for preserving the limits, &c. Ordered, that Mr. Maior tender the arrears of the Ferry, due by charter, to Mr. Jackson, and if he will not accept it that a like tender be made to the Farmers , and in the Exchequer at Dublin ; that if Mr. Jackson distrain the Ferry boat, that the boatmen do notwithstanding keep the boat for the transportation and ferrying over his Majys. subjects , as the Town by Charter , &c., is bound. And Mr. Maior by the next post is desired to write up to Mr. James Uniack to take care of the business, and if possible obtain a replevin for the boat, and if Mr. Uniack leave Dublin before the business be effected , that he commit same to the care of some friend. It. That Mr. Maior pay Mr. Thom . Brown, Clerk to the Commissioners of Array, so much for arraying the Militia troops and companies of this Town, as Mr. Maior, when he comes to Cork, shall find that others on the like account have paid. And that Mr. Freeman be paid 18s. for transcribing the Militia lists in this Town. It. That the limekiln near the North gate be pulled down , that no further damage may happen thereby .

29 June, 1774. At a Court of election for Mayor and Bayliffs : Eligees for Mayor : Mr. Nich. Stout , proposed by Mr. Mayor, had 63 votes ; and Mr. Rob. Gower proposed by the Bayliffs , had no votes. Whereupon Mr. Nich . Stout was elected Mayor . Eligees for Bayliffs : Mr. Walter Atkin Hayman , proposed by the Mayor, had votes 68 ; Mr. Will. Jackson, Jun.,by the M. Elect , 62; John Downing by the Bayliffs, 5. Whereupon Messrs . Hayman and Jackson were duly elected Bayliffs .

29 June , 1795. At a Court of election for choosing Magistrates : Candidates for Mayor : Will. Jackson, 96 votes ; Sam. Freeman , 6 do .; W. Jackson was elected Mayor. Mathew Nash and the Revd. Arthur Hyde , Jun ., Clk., were elected Bayliffs, and Charles Nixon Green, Treasurer .
