These 28 deeds involve a Richard JACKSON and leases or mortgages for lands at the Strand or North Strand. I know nothing about him, nor who his family might have been. Once I can get a copy of at least one of the memorials and see his signature, that may help me make the link.

Dublin Street Names: Dated and Explained. Rev. C. T McCready. Hodges Figgis & Co. 1898

 

Montgomery-str. (Mabbot-str) 1776. Fomr Elizabeth (d.1783) eldest dau. Of Sir Wm. Montgomery Bart., - who m (1773) the Rt. Hon. Luke Gardiner. (see Gardiner’s Row.) Formerly (1756) World’s-end-la.

Strand, The. St. Beresford-pl. and Amiens-str. Are called in 1728 and 1756. In 1803, we meet with the North Strand.

In 1228 (D.K.R., xxxiii. 80), we read of land on the strand in St. Audoen’s parish, and in 1270  (D.K.R., xxxiii. 85), of land on the strand in S. Michael’s-parish. (This strand is now known as Merchants’-quay, q.v.)

Summer-hill. (Great Britain Str.) 1756

Ormonde Qu. 1728 -lr 1742. It includes Jervis-qu which appears in 1766. It includes the ‘pill,’ which appears in Pill-la. NOTE: This is a significant place to look next for connections to this Richard JACKSON

Richard JACKSON would likely have previously been described as a haberdasher -selling silk, cotton thread & worsted stockings - but in 1787 he sought an apprenticeship in Engraving. His address prior to becoming an engraver and holding leases on Strand Street, was #32 Lower Ormond Quay. NOTE This is a significant place to look next for connections to this Richard JACKSON

NOTE: The Parish of St. Thomas is not in irishtownlands.ie, but can be seen on Griffiths in Barony of Dublin City. St. Thomas Parish was west of St. George’s Parish and north of St. Mark’s Parish. The Church of Ireland Parish of Drumcondra and North Strand covers Ballybough and is bordered to the west by the Parish of St. George and St. Thomas. Ballybough Bridge: The Ballybough Road crosses Ireland's Royal Canal on a stone arch bridge in the North Strand neighbourhood of Dublin. North Strand is probably the road on the north shore of the Liffey. According to Dublin Street Names, it was renamed Amiens Street, and in 1673, it was under water.
