My research approach has much in common with a magpie. I go for the shiny bits, with a focus on JACKSONs and others connected to them through family, geography or financial connections.

My notes (of varying quality) include more than 6,100 memorials so far. For the ones which have been transcribed in full and annotated, there are links included.

2021-2022 Updates - Added hyperlinks to townland names so researchers can match older versions of townland names as they were spelled in the leases with the current names and maps. Also added are links to family trees.
NOTE: For researchers who seek specific Grantors and Grantees or specific townlands, unfortinately Google site-specific searches are a bit hit and miss. It works best to use the page hyperlinks beneath to the right of the map beneath, and use page-search.

My primary research focus has been on JACKSONs and/or OLIVERs, as well as on the dozens of families with family, business or neighbour connections to them. JACKSONs can be found in every county in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The OLIVERs of interest to me have been mostly in Northern Ireland.
Caught by the far-flung net of my searches are hundreds of other names as well as hundreds of townlands. Enjoy.

  • For some memorials, I have only done brief notes, while others are almost completely transcribed.
  • There are overlaps in the date ranges because the date of the agreement and the date of the registering of the memorial can differ.

Armagh Corporation 1708-1810 Memorials of Deeds from the Townland Index The Armagh Corporation was a geographical area in the Barony of Armagh that roughly encompassed the city of Armagh boundaries. My main focus in this area is in the families that did business with or intermarried with the OLIVERs.
  4. Co. Armagh Memorials of Deeds. in three parts: Part 1 (BK 1-329 - 1708-1779); Part 2 (Bk330 - 1779-1829); Later Deeds: 1830- . These notes help me to track various families and places in Co. This only includes Books 1-899. In time, I will also add more hyperlinks to place-names as well as other relevant information. My hope is that this can become an aid to assist other researchers.

Townland Clusters – a tool for unearthing women’s history. In the timeline which I have cobbled together beneath, clusters of holdings which Abigail JACKSON (1683-1763) held in Dublin, Cavan, Meath and Monaghan, were mentioned in her January 5, 1737 marriage settlement (see beneath for my notes on it), echoed the holdings listed in the will of Samuel JACKSON (1705).  Her marriage memorial was recorded 31 years after the death of her uncle Samuel JACKSON of Dublin when she was 54 years old and her (second) husband Oliver CROFTON (1710-1780) was 27 years old.
